Nike: Clash

Animation and Art Direction

Born from early-stage concept development for a client pitch, Clash of Styles is a personal motion design exploration that reimagines Nike’s energy through the lens of gendered dynamics in sport. The concept takes the idea of “opposites” beyond the visual—portraying how athletic identity can be fiercely individual yet powerfully interconnected, defined by contrasts that drive performance forward.

Fusing dynamic 3D animation with deliberately opposing visual languages, the piece stages an intense interplay between grit and elegance, impact and fluidity, control and chaos. Each element—whether a burst of particulate energy or a clean, sculpted form—was designed to speak to one side of this dialogue, colliding in moments of high-impact motion that suggest competition, attraction, and transformation.

Production Process

Technically, the project draws on a hybrid workflow: Maxon Cinema 4D for core animation, Octane Render for photoreal lighting and materials, the Adobe Creative Suite for compositing and finishing, and Insydium X-Particles for intricate, high-energy simulations. Layered procedural textures, particle-driven dynamics, and stylized motion curves were combined to push both visual intensity and cinematic pacing.

As a self-directed work, Clash of Styles provided complete creative freedom—an opportunity to experiment with scale, speed, and materiality without the constraints of a commercial brief. The result is a piece that reflects Nike’s ethos of performance, power, and identity, but reframed through a bold, conceptual lens: a visual conversation where differences don’t just coexist—they fuel the game.
